In February 2006, the City of Amsterdam put up ?No Toking? signs in De Baarsjes, one of the city?s poorer neighbourhoods. The idea was to discourage youths from loitering and getting high in the street where they would undoubtedly cause untold amounts of trouble and mayhem. The signs didn?t last very long.
In fact, so many went missing (the first and second ones going the very same evening they were put up), that the city?s authorities soon realised they had stumbled upon gold-dust and actually began selling them to tourists and people who had seen the No Toking sign on the net. Now they are available in these large and small size stickers and make a fun and interesting decoration for any bedroom or lounge, guitar amp, car, lunchbox or anything else you might like to stick them on.
The 'No Toking' sign, originally marked ?Blowverbod? in Amsterdam, features a lit joint in a red circle with a stream of smoke marked by trailing cannabis leaves.
