How to get Un-high

Had a bit too many magic brownies? Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Everything is ok and you’ll be just fine very soon.

Although this isn’t an exact science, we’ve listed the 7 tips we swear by to getting unhigh. With them, you should be able to deal with the effects of THC in your system, and help mellow you out.

Let’s ground you down!

1. Stay Calm

Remember: It doesn’t matter how many edibles you’ve eaten, you’ll be fine. Not only will you be fine, but there’s probably someone out there who wishes they were on the trip you are.

Often during a cannabis high we can forget that the high will end soon. The amount of time it’ll take to wear off will vary depending on your tolerance levels and your method of consumption. While there’s no telling exactly how long a week high lasts, If you’ve been smoking weed, dabbing, or vaping THC concentrates the high will be over in about an hour or two, whereas an edible high lasts for up to 12 hours, although some people experience residual effects all the way till the next day. These times also depend on how strong your hit was: high THC levels may extend your high. If you’re not used to cannabis, look at starting with something with a low THC percentage first.

If you’re feeling nervous, find a quiet place where you feel safe, and ground yourself by naming what you see around you. You can also do breathing exercises or try meditating if you’re up for it.

Remember: it’ll be over soon, there’s nothing to worry about.

2. Stay Hydrated

Making sure you’re hydrated can help you avoid feeling annoyed or down. That’s why it’s always a great idea to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and other refreshing drinks.

It’s better to avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol, since alcohol can increase the amount of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in your blood. If you want to add flavor, lemon has a terpene called limonene which many say can counteract some of the psychoactive effects you’re feeling and can help you feel more relaxed.

Add some lemon juice along with some lemon peels to hot water, and drink it as a hot beverage or ice it if you want to feel refreshed.

3. Have Pine Nuts or Black Pepper

You can also look for a snack with terpenes that can diminish the effect of cannabinoids in your system.

Pine nuts contain both limonene and pinene, which may help diminish the “fogginess” effects of cannabis. Black peppercorns are also filled with useful terpenes that may diminish the effects of weed.

If you have a small bowl of peppercorns and pine nuts with a nice glass of lemonade, you’ll be on your way to sobering down soon!

4. Have a Relaxing Shower

Having a slow and relaxing shower can be a great way of waiting out the effects of THC if you’re home.

Although a hot shower can be quite relaxing, cold showers can help you lower your heart rate and ground you down. Some people also feel more focused and energized after a shower, which can help you combat the impairment symptoms.

5. Go For a Walk

Sometimes changing your environment can help diminish the side effects of cannabis consumption. Doing exercise also activates your metabolism, and generates endorphins that can help you feel better.

If you decide to go for a walk, it’s always a good idea to not go too far, and to bring a friend with you, especially if this is one of your first times consuming.

6. Distract Yourself

Getting distracted with a fun activity is another great way of mellowing down after indulging in some cannabis products. You can listen to your favorite songs and get lost in the music, watch your favorite show, play some funny videos on YouTube, or chat with a friend. Petting a furry friend can also be very fun and relaxing.

Just find a chill activity, and dive right in!

7. Have CBD

Some studies have shown that CBD might actually temper down the effects of smoking, helping reduce your heart rate and freshen up your head. Since CBD can block cannabinoid receptors in the brain, it can effectively cut down the effects of your high.

Nowadays, you can get CBD gummies, joints, edibles, and more, in practically any dispensary and pharmacy out there. Prepare your next sesh by getting some CBD products here.

8. Go To Sleep

Sometimes, the best way to “fast forward” the effects of edibles or joints is to simply go to sleep. Taking a nap or even calling it a day and turning in is usually not hard when you’re high, and can help you wake up refreshed and sober.

Try laying down and relaxing by playing chill music or a guided meditation for sleep on your phone. You’ll fall asleep in no time.

9. Enjoy The Ride

Sometimes, the best thing to do is to just sit back, buckle up, and enjoy the ride. Whether you want to rediscover your love for music, think about the secrets of the universe, or just chill out with some friends, relaxing and enjoying the moment can be a great alternative to getting unhigh.

After all, cannabis users pay top dollar for exotic forms of cannabis with high THC to get the experience you’re having. Shouldn’t you enjoy it while it lasts?

What are the risks of getting too high?

Fortunately, there are very few risks to getting too high. It’s virtually impossible to consume enough THC through cannabis use to kill you, and it’s very rare for it to be life-threatening.

Often, the biggest risk with the ingestion or consumption of cannabis is having a bad experience. Luckily, whether you’ve had too many cannabis edibles or smoked a bit too much flower in your bong, one thing is certain: you’ll be fine in a few hours.

Relax, give it some time, and have a great trip!
