Grasscity: Then & Now
Before there was Grasscity, there was coffeeshop-amsterdam.com: a small website meant to be an online guide for pot tourists in Amsterdam. But our founders, Filip and Hans, had an idea: what could be a better use for the internet than selling bongs?
So in 2001, Filip and Hans launched Grasscity. It was a tough start, in the still new world of e-commerce. Twenty years ago, the internet looked a lot different than it does today. Forget finding us through an Instagram ad or a quick Google search—Google barely even existed yet. We remember our first orders actually coming in via fax!
In 2002, we put out our first ad in the December issue of High Times magazine. We saw orders start to pour in from the US, putting Grasscity on the map. Fast-forward to now, we’ve grown to become the #1 online headshop in the world.
After 20 years, we’re proud of where Grasscity is today—and we can’t wait to see what the next 20 years holds! Keep your eyes on us, everyone: the best is yet to come.
