Showerhead Percolators:

What are Percolator Bongs?

Percolator Bongs or Percs are predominantly glass smoking devices that incorporate special design features to improve diffusion of smoke and improve the overall quality of the smoke you inhale. Essentially, these bongs use high quality design and manufacture to enhance the filtration and cooling of your smoke.

How do Percolator Bongs work?

Scientifically speaking, percolation refers to the process of filtering fluids through a porous surface and comes from the Latin term for filtration or “to trickle through”. This process of filtration takes place within the percolator of the bong.

Percolators inside bongs are systems designed with small holes inside. These holes allow smoke to pass through gradually. In a regular bong, smoke will interact with the water in the chamber and pass directly into your lungs. However, a percolator bong provides secondary filtration and cooling as the smoke has to pass through the holes of the percolator and diffuse across the percolator surface.

Are Percolator Bongs better than normal bongs?

This really depends on personal preference but, on the whole, percolators provide better filtration and a smoother smoking experience.

Percolators are more sophisticated in ensign than standard bongs as they incorporate more elements for cooling and filtering smoke. For this reason, you could conclude that they are better than your average smoking device. One drawback of more working parts within the system is that percolator bongs can be trickier to clean and maintain than regular bongs.

Do Percolator Bongs get you higher?

It’s a common misconception that you will become more high from smoking through a percolator. Generally, you’ll feel the same level of high with a percolator as you would from smoking a regular bong. In fact, percolators may have a lesser effect than that of a regular bong as a marginal amount of THC may get lost through secondary filtration.

The main difference between a regular bong and a percolator bong isn’t necessarily the effect, but the experience. A percolator provides an unrivalled smoking experience and the smoke you inhale is smooth and cool when compared to the sometimes harsh hits associated with an ordinary bong.

What is the best Percolator Bong?

Again, this is a question that depends on personal preference and each individual smoker will have a preference when it comes to different percolator bongs. Cleaning a percolator bong is very similar to cleaning a regular bong. The only difference is that you have to take extra care when cleaning the percolator, or multiple percolators if you opt for a more sophisticated design.

One of the best solutions for cleaning your percolator bong is isopropyl alcohol. It can be used to soak your bong and will remove any unwanted leftover residue. One you’re satisfied that the alcohol has done its job, give your bong a rinse with fresh water and let it drain and dry before using it again.
