Bong or Dab Rig? This is a question many enthusiasts ask when they are ready to upgrade their setup. While they might look similar to a beginner, they are actually precision tools designed for two very different types of consumption. 1. What Is Being Consumed?
The most fundamental difference is the material you put inside the piece.
- Bongs: These are designed specifically for dry herb or flower. The material is loaded into a glass bowl, ignited with a flame, and the resulting smoke is filtered through water.

A smaller chamber keeps the vapor concentrated and ensures it reaches your lungs as quickly as possible to preserve the terpene profile and potency.
4. Comparing Bongs, Rigs, and Bubblers
It is also worth noting how bubblers fit into this equation. A bubbler is essentially a hybrid between a hand pipe and a bong.
